Midterm Seminar: Cheryl Fung
Cheryl Fung, PhD Student in Media and Communication Studies will present her midway dissertation manuscript “Social Movement Aesthetics: Mapping of the everyday and memory in visual protest repertoires in Hong Kong”.
The research project is a study of the visual elements and aesthetics of social movements, drawing on a case study of the 2019-2020 social movement in Hong Kong. Through a triangulation of qualitative methods of visual analysis and in-depth interviews, this research aims to bring forward the concept of disguised artivism in contemporary movements. It also explores concepts such as memory work and temporality in the specific context of social movements to unfold the dynamic and multilayered visual phenomenon of artistic activism.
